Granite Countertops for Atlanta Kitchens and Baths
Granite is a natural stone quarried in solid blocks and cut into slabs, so no two countertops are exactly alike. That one-of-a-kind look, plus its resistance to heat and scratches, is why granite is still one of the most requested surfaces in kitchen and bathroom remodels across Metro Atlanta, from historic homes near the Marietta Square to newer builds in Alpharetta, Johns Creek and Cumming.
At Sequoia Design & Build we handle the whole process in-house: we help you pick the slab, template your cabinets, coordinate fabrication and install the finished tops, sink and backsplash. One team, one schedule, no hand-offs between contractors.
Why Homeowners Choose Granite
- Heat resistant: granite handles warm pans far better than most engineered surfaces (we still recommend trivets).
- Scratch and wear resistant: it is one of the hardest countertop materials available for everyday kitchens.
- Unique patterns: every slab has its own veining and movement, so your kitchen will not look like anyone else’s.
- Lasting value: natural stone countertops are a feature buyers notice when it is time to sell.
- Indoor and outdoor use: granite holds up well on outdoor kitchens and grill stations in Georgia’s heat and humidity.
Granite vs. Quartz: Which Is Right for You?
Granite is natural stone with one-of-a-kind patterns and excellent heat tolerance. It is porous, so it should be sealed periodically. Quartz is an engineered surface with a consistent look that never needs sealing, but it is more sensitive to direct heat and is not recommended for outdoor kitchens. If you love natural movement and plan to cook a lot, granite is usually the better fit. If you want a uniform, low-maintenance surface, quartz may suit you better. We bring samples of both to your design consultation so you can compare them in your own lighting.
What Affects the Cost of Granite Countertops
- Slab grade and rarity: common colors cost less than exotic slabs with dramatic veining.
- Square footage and layout: islands, L-shapes and seams change how many slabs you need.
- Edge profile: eased and bevel edges are standard; ogee and mitered edges take more fabrication time.
- Cut-outs: undermount sinks, cooktops and faucet holes are all part of the quote.
- Tear-out: removing old laminate, tile or stone and any cabinet repairs needed underneath.
Every project is different, so we give you a written, itemized quote after we measure your space.
Our Granite Installation Process

Granite Countertop FAQ
How often does granite need to be sealed?
It depends on the stone. Many granites only need resealing every year or two. A quick water test (if water darkens the stone after a few minutes, it is time) tells you when.
Can you install granite on my existing cabinets?
Usually yes, as long as the cabinets are level and structurally sound. We inspect them during the estimate and let you know if any reinforcement is needed.
Do you install granite outside of Atlanta?
Yes. We install granite countertops throughout Metro Atlanta, including Marietta, East Cobb, Alpharetta, Roswell, Buckhead and Woodstock.
